Two Departments in Gibson County, Tennessee Choose Rover

Monroe, CT. February 21, 2018 – Spotted Dog Technologies, the provider of the Rover Incident Response Platform and Mobile App, announced that two fire departments in Gibson County, Tennessee have implemented the mobile emergency response system to aid firefighters in responding when an emergency occurs. The two departments are the Milan Fire Department and Dyer Fire Department.

The Rover Platform and Mobile App is used to send emergency alerts to the mobile device carried by first responders who can easily notify the department that they are available to respond to a call with the touch of their phone screen. Rover automatically sends the responder’s status and credentials and, as responders travel to the fire house, incident command receives a real-time countdown of their arrival time and can track them via GPS on a monitor at the station.

The Milan Fire Department is a combination department staffing two fire stations with 22 full-time and 16 volunteer firefighters. Milan is the second largest city in Gibson County serving a population of 8000 citizens.

“There are a number of ways Rover is helping Milan to respond to emergency calls more efficiently,” said Assistant Chief Mike Estes. “Incident information is sent directly to our engines and phones, so we no longer need to ask the dispatcher to repeat instructions, and preplans, hydrant locations and hazards can be viewed right on our devices. I’m particularly impressed with the speed at which the system works, getting us the information we need within seconds.”

The Dyer Fire Department is manned by 28 volunteers who serve a town of 2500 people. In 2018, the Dyer department responded to 440 calls for service.

According to Chief Ryan Shanklin of the Dyer department, “With this technology we can determine, early on, if we have the personnel available to handle the situation at hand. We’re delighted that this level of technology is affordable to a small department like ours,” he said.

“We are pleased to provide Milan and Dyer with communication technology that will help put critical information in the hands of their firefighters in the first crucial minutes of an incident” Said Geoffrey Giordano, president of Spotted Dog.
